Can I talk to you about Wallows?

Wallows have become my new OBSESSION. As it seems to be at the moment, i’ve discovered them after they’ve been on the scene for years already (their debut single ‘Pleaser’ was released in 2017) and have found myself in deep dives this week on Youtube, watching all of their music videos, interviews and concerts.

The first track that has led me onto this deep dive is ‘Remember When’ from their album ‘Nothing Happens’ which was released in 2019. The song begins with a sexy guitar riff, breaking out into the synths and 80s sound that decorate the bands tracks. The lyrics lead me to melt into my headphones:

I can still see you at the place out there when I close my eyes
Do you remember when we felt like the only two alive?
Don’t let me be one of the people that seek a lost romance
Would you go and do it all over again, given a chance?

Ooooooooft. Anyway back to other tracks.

The band’s Youtube is filled with their fun music videos.
The video to the track ‘OK’ is reminiscent of 90’s music videos, quirky pop outfits, dodgy blue hair dye and track intermissions to tell a story. This all reminds me of the times when music videos were fun and essential in any bands mission to be played on MTV. In this digital age we seem to forget the importance what music videos once had and I’ve enjoyed viewing the Wallow’s contributions as it seems they’ve had fun creating such fun stories to accompany their singles.

Not only do the band present some beautiful indie-pop romantic hits, they also have funny, pop-bangers. In ‘Scrawny’ we sing out “tell me i’m a scrawny mother-fucker with a cool hairstyle“. It’s a catchy song with an addictive guitar riff. I wish I could see them at a festival to see the crowds chant the lyrics. Hopefully with their upcoming gigs after the release of their next album ‘Model” I may just get my opportunity to do so.

The band go on tour in the UK in October (See full list of dates here) and their new album ‘Model’ is out on May 24th. Let me know what tracks you’re enjoying.
