Last weekend I was given the opportunity to work alongside Applestump Records to interview the musician James McGrath about his upcoming debut album Can’t Get Out which will be released on Friday 13th September.
Make sure to watch the video above to hear what James has to say about the recording process, themes on the album, working in America, advice to any budding musicians and I asked about a possibility of an upcoming tour!
I was lucky enough to listen to the album before the interview and it’s a great album, full of tracks with a folk and country sound intertwined throughout. There are lots of themes covered from depression, to drinking, to falling in love and heartbreak and it’s produced really well. James worked with music producer Peter Maher on all of tracks apart from “Hold On” which is produced by Peter Klett (Klett was the lead guitarist of grunge band Candlebox) and it was exciting to have the opportunity to speak to James about the recording process and to ask why he decided to re-record some of his older tracks that had appeared on previous EP’s.
Make sure to give the video a watch and to let me know in the comments if you want to see anymore Youtube collaborations with Applestump! A huge thanks goes to Steve and the whole team at Applestump for inviting me to interview James and for creating such a class video!
