Can I Talk To You About The Music in ‘Nobody Wants This’

Ok I am obsessed with the TV show “Nobody Wants This” that was released on Netflix a couple of weeks ago and I want to tell you why. Now I know you think I’m about to say it’s because of the rebirth of Adam Brody as a sex symbol or the fact it was created by Erin Foster who loosely based it on her life (I’ve since become obsessed with her podcast “The World’s First Podcast“). I mean I’m not completely unaware of the Adam Brody situation (have we all started rewatching the OC? Because me too) but my reason for this post is because of the soundtrack to the tv series.
I love a good TV show with an amazing soundtrack that allows me to discover new music. It’s been years since i’ve watched a TV show which makes me feel all of the emotions because every aspect of it: the storyline, the acting, the scenario all create this wonderful moment but most importantly for me it’s the music that really brings it all together. I watched this show thinking how well the music has been selected by the musical supervisors, which brings me to who they are.

Now there are already some great articles highlighting the music of the show however i’ve not seen any yet naming the musical supervisors until I listened to the latest episode of Erin and Sara Foster’s podcast where they confirmed they are Este Haim and Zachary Dawes. Yes the musicians Este Haim and Zachary Dawes. The whole soundtrack is amazing, they obviously include Haim and Zachary Dawes songs but they have chosen so many boss tunes on this soundtrack. So let’s get into which tracks I absolutely love – be warned this will 100% contain spoilers from the show.

Haim- Now I’m In It
This is my first choice as in the first episode when Noah (Adam Brody) closes the door to Joanna (Kirsten Bell) and it clicks they’re both suddenly obsessed with each other, starting a montage of them days after the first meet up. This song accompanies the moment and it’s just a *chefs kiss* of bringing a montage of those feelings that follow when you get a crush.

LÉON- You And I
LÉON is my next choice which features again in episode one. Now there isn’t a correlation with my love of the song and the scene it appears in other than I have really enjoyed listening to this track and excited to discover more of her discography.

Francis And The Lights – See Her Out
Now this is quite an old song (it was released in 2016) but this song for that first kiss scene between Noah and Joanna is arrrrrghhhhhh. I think why I like it so much is because rather than it be some over the top emotional song with an acoustic guitar played in the background, it instead has a slow synth crescendo up to the moment of the kiss that really heightens the emotion and that’s why it is a perfect choice. Anyway let me post the video below of the scene because words can’t do it justice but BRAVO to the music team for this one. BRAVO.

Chumbawamba – Tupthumping
This is one of my favourite one hit wonders that I love to play at a party. The beginning of the song everyone around you is all “whose put this shit on? blah blah blah” but then the chorus kicks in and everyones bloody loving it and “Pissing the night away” as the lyrics go. Anyway this songs plays in the WAGS episode where Joanne and the rest of the WAGs watch the basketball game and get pissed doing so. It’s a fun bit of tv and I was just glad they chose a top-tier anthem for it.

Rachel Chinouriri- All I Ever Asked
2024 is the year of Rachel Chinouriri. She is soaring with the release of her album ‘What A Devastating Turn Of Events” earlier this year, going on her own headline tour very soon and announcing she’ll be the support act for Sabrina Carpenter’s European Tour – this girl is busy. Chinouriri’s song “All I Ever Asked” appears on the final episode and I adore this song after watching Rachel at Manchester’s academy 3 earlier this year. Watch the live performance of “All I Ever Asked” and make sure to check out more of her discography as you won’t be disappointed.

STRFKR- Together Forever
I have never heard of STRFKR before and I really like this tune. I feel it’s a song version of dressing up ‘smart casual’. Like it’s a relaxing tune but it’s funky enough to get noticed. Which is the vibe I go for when I plan my coffee date outfits. I’ll have to give this band more of a listen if this song is anything to go by.

Remi Wolf- Cinderella
This song is a grooooove. Without fail after one listen this song will be in my head all day. Remi Wolf recently released her album ‘Big Ideas’ back in July this year and this song has inspired me to make sure to give it a listen because this is a playlist fixture.

I hope you enjoyed listening to a few of the tracks if you really enjoyed the TV show make sure to follow the official playlist on Spotify or you can listen to it below.
